Frequently Asked Questions
Customizing? Yes Please!Q: I would like to make a few changes to a basket I really like. How do I arrange that?
A: Easy - our standard fare can be tweaked here and there, no problem. Simply order the basket you want online and, upon check out, make your requests for substitutions or changes in the 'NOTE' section. We don't create a basket without following along! If you have a request that you can’t find or struggling to sort out exactly what it is that you want, send us an email regarding your needs, budget and timeline. For example:
A: No problem! In many cases we keep records of what your basket contained last year and have so many ingredients to choose from, we will make it look fresh and different each time around! Q: I've noticed that some 'gift basket' companies actually don't make gift baskets at all but rather use 'gift boxes'. What do you use - baskets or boxes? A: We are so excited to say we now do BOTH gift baskets AND gift boxes! Our sister company, Vancouver Island Gift Basket Co. fills eco-friendly gift boxes with the same BC products used in GiGi's gift baskets. If sending a gift out of Province, or you need something easy to handle, try a gift box! Either way - we're happy to help you choose what is best for your particular giving needs. Q: Our company has some cool 'swag' we'd like added to our client gift baskets like coffee mugs, calendars and some other cool stuff. Can you add these to our baskets? A: We sure can! We're more than happy to add your company swag. We'll need your items before we start so everything fits 'just right' and looks totally awesome. Send us an email and we'll provide details on how to make it work. Q: I’ve noticed that your gift baskets don’t have that same monochromatic look that a lot of the box stores have. Why is that? A: Easy answer - we choose substance and variety over packaging. It's the content that counts - not the colour. A lot of the off-the-shelf gift baskets are monochromatic because they have products from a national supplier whose emphasis is on uniform packaging and cheap pricing rather than contents. We like to select products that complement each other, in taste as well as appearance. Q. Do you have gluten or allergy sensitive gifts? A: We cannot be absolutely certain which products are free of ingredients that the receiver might be sensitive or allergic to and so we rely on the package labels. If a producer has indicated 'Gluten Free' on their package or website, we've noted that on the Ingredients pages. Look for 'GF' beside the listings. We're happy to take direction from you as to what to include or leave out. Q: Everyone seems to use the words ‘gourmet’ when describing their gift baskets. You do too. What does gourmet mean to GiGi’s? A: Ha! You’re so right! To us ‘gourmet’ means high quality ingredients, often handmade vs. mass produced. Gourmet is distinctive, limited, made in small batches, often producer direct, having complex and delightful flavours... all or a combination of those characteristics. Q: Gourmet Shmoormay, what if I want Cheezies and Lucky? A: No problem, and no-judgment! Truly, one request that gave us a big smile was a basket with a bottle of single malt scotch and two bags of Bugles for a 93-year old aunt! :) We recommend our 'Snack Attack' - mainstream snacks and treats filled in a fun colourful container. Delivery & ShippingIf your question isn't answered here, you will find more specifics about delivery and shipping on the Delivery page.
Q: I need a basket delivered today, can you help? A: Ordinarily, orders received by 11:00 AM on a business day go out the same day in the Victoria area. If it is after 11:00 AM or a weekend/holiday, please contact us and we will see what we can do. Q: Do you deliver 7 days a week? A: We deliver Monday, Weds., Thurs. and Friday. During holidays our schedule increases to handle the volume. Q: Can gift baskets be sent to places outside of the Victoria area? Q: Deliver to Nanaimo? Campbell River? Vancouver? A: Yes, to many BC locations in the Lower Mainland, Central Vancouver Island, etc., we can arrange to have your basket couriered 'overnight'. (Overnight typically means the next business day when the order is received before 11:00 AM on the business day before). Gulf Island locations are a bit more tricky and we recommend a Vancouver Island Gift Box to reduced the special handling costs of sending a traditional basket to the islands. NOTE: We are unable to courier or ship perishable items such as fresh fruit, deli meats, cheese, etc. Alcohol can be couriered within BC but must be received by an adult. We recommend one of our Vancouver Island Gift Boxes for area's not listed above. Q: Can I send a gift basket to Toronto? A: Yes, to Toronto. And actually, from the West Coast all the way to the East Coast! For out-of-area locations, such as Toronto, we'll pack all the goodies using a sturdy gift box under our sister company Vancouver Island Gift Basket Co. These eco-friendly gift boxes are ideal for shipping anywhere in Canada via Canada Post. NOTE: We are unable to ship perishable items such as fresh fruit, deli meats, etc. via Canada Post. Q: Can I send a gift basket to the USA? A: Due to the labour of customs paperwork, normally no. Occasionally we ship outside of Canada via Canada Post. We pack all the goodies into a sturdy gift box that is ideal for shipping. Q: I'd like to send gift baskets to more than one address... how do I specify that? A: Like most checkout systems, our system will handle one delivery address per order. This means your options are either: Place multiple orders OR clarify shipping addresses for each basket in the 'NOTE' section upon check-out or in a follow-up email. If we have any questions, we will contact you. If all else fails, email us. Don't worry - we'll make sure it works the way you intended! Q: Do you leave gift baskets on the porch if no one is home to receive it? A: Generally, NO! However, in the event that we have been given instructions by the sender or receiver to leave it on the porch, we will do so (as long as the basket does not contain alcohol) and the driver feels it is well hidden from street view. We deliver from 11:30 to 2:30 PM (on some holidays, we have extended delivery times). If you are not sure whether someone will be home to receive the gift during these hours and, especially if they live in a condo or gated community, please check with us to arrange alternative/backup arrangements. Please check our 'delivery' page for specifics during the holidays. Q: The delivery address is a condo, can you offer same day delivery? A: Condo deliveries can be challenging. We highly recommend that when possible, you provide a non condo address. If unavoidable, make sure you provide the recipients cell phone. We will contact them to make arrangements, whether delivery happens the same day or not will be dependent on the recipients schedule during our daily route. Parcels can be picked up at our location in the Westshore. Q: Do you really need the receiver's phone number? I'm sure they will be home... that's good enough, right? Q: Can you make the delivery a surprise? Q: I would like to send a gift basket to someone in a secure building. Can you still deliver? A: We know from extensive experience that it is important to contact the receiver at least a few hours in advance to arrange delivery (you may think they are usually at home/work, but we have found otherwise!). We do our best to conceal what we are delivering and preserve the surprise, however, it's better to let someone know that a special something is arriving than run the risk of not coordinating a successful delivery. There can be an additional charge if we have to make another delivery attempt, so we ask for as much contact information for the receiver - cell phone, day time phone and email address. This way, we have the best chance of tracking those busy rascals down! Q: I’d like to pick up a basket to deliver myself. Can that be arranged? A: Sure! We’re happy to make arrangements for you to pick up direct from our workplace in the Westshore. Advance notice is required, otherwise, chances are good you’ll miss us!
